Homemade Genius is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to encourage the artistic skills and/or musical abilities of individuals, particularly those youth from disadvantaged backgrounds, so that they may recognize and develop these talents in a safe, intellectually-stimulating environment which promotes tolerance and acceptance of others.

The goals of Homemade Genius include securing a location and providing children with the opportunity to receive instruction, guidance, and encouragement from local professional artists and musicians, as well as area college students and others who shall serve as teachers and role models to instill in these children the importance of self-esteem, self-awareness, and creativity. This instruction shall occur in a facility that will serve as a gallery for artists. works, studio and learning space for artists and musicians, a site for creative workshops, and a venue for the already-established bi-monthly Homemade Genius art competition and concert series which has previously attracted hundreds of visitors to many of Greenwood.s downtown businesses and which has worked significantly to forge community alliances.

This facility will be open to the public, promoting Greenwood as a progressive, collaborative community which emphasizes the importance of creative expression and the well-being of children who demonstrate great artistic potential but who do not have the resources to achieve these ambitions on their own.
